AFAIK, there is no new one available. :-(

However, you might find 2nd hand vinyl records in shops located at Sino
Centre (Nathan Road, MongKok). For 3.5" CD, I've once seen it and the
listed price is >HK$500 . :^O

I don't have 'million' equipment. However, I DO find the sound clearer.
The noise is less, too.

Anyway, this is not a big deal. In fact, the recordings of local CDs are
just okay. So some of us (including me) find the re-mastered one (though
it is not superb) is really nice.

No new song plugged. So I think her new album, if any, would not be out
before November.

I bought mine in 92. By that time all the ones available for sale were
2nd hand only. I paid $200 for the vinyl, and I bet it's worth at least a
$1000 today. =) BTW, it is interesting to know that there exists a 3.5"
CD of the album. I am interested in buying it so please quote me a price
if you have it! Thanx.

One more thing, I am challenging you guys on the number of SHirley's
albums you possess. I can't remember how many I have (I'll count later),
and don't think anyone beats me on that. Let me know if you think you
have a bigger selection. [Duplicate copies and albums with other singers
don't count]

Maybe you're the one who have all of her CDV, so you can say
challenging us, anyway if you have a scanner, scan a copy of them to
me! I'd like to have the cover even though I can't afford thousands for
them. :>

I think this film 'Out of the Blur' is only a "warm up" for Shirley's
skill on acting. We're looking forward to her next movie "No Frills"
directed by Wong Ka Wai. Hope she will have more appearance time in
that movie! :>

By the way, what's on your mind about do something for Shirley?

Hey, you are partially right! I do have many of her CDV's, but I also
have many of her promotional single albums (those sent to DJ's for
air-plugging). Unfortunately, I do not have a scanner, otherwise I would
have contributed the covers to Keith's E'Space already. =(

        Hi everybody,
I've talked to one of us(super e's fans) for doing something for our
Shirley. Since Shirley has only one official Fan Club in Hong Kong which is
directly influenced by Polygram, I believe it's time for us to set up the
unofficial but the biggest Fan Club for her. Our base will be on the
internet, thus making it truely in international scale.
Before we start, I wanna know how many of you will be interested in
this concept and how many of you are around? Where are all of you come
from? It's so important to have all kinds of data before I can make up a
more detail plan.
The following are the things that are on my mind:
        1. We can use the internet to send messages to all the medias to
help promoting Shirley's new songs, albums, movies, dramas, etc.
        2. We can set a specific goal from time to time to help promoting
Shirley's product,i.e.to get the largest number of votes for her
songs, to promote her new movies by sending the scanned pictures of
her latest movie's stills to every possible media....
        3. To group all the computer(the net)specialist together to make
our biggest unofficial web site as our base.
        4. To search for the latest news about Shirley and release it ASAP
on the site.
        5. Here's something more interesting...to set up a broadcasting
radio station on the web so that every one can enjoy her
specific songs from time to time.Of course, there will be much
much more from this broadcasting station.
        6. Even though there will not be immediate response from the other
people, I believe it will draw lots of attention. Thus, the other
media will start talking about it...Shirley will become more popular.
Well, the above are only something on my mind...for a long, long
time. Please give me your opinion.
        All the Best
        Alex---e'super fans.

May I re-iterate that it is 'e while not e' . :-)

The mark _'_ is subsituting _Ye_ of _Yee_. As _Ye_ is in front of _e_, _'_
should be placed in front of _e_, too. :-P

My 2 cents.

Are you sure there is a Japanese version of "EX"? I only have the Jap.
version of "The Story of Shirley", which has 2 extra tracks than the
Cantonese one (My Dear and Dela). I also have the mandarin version of
"EX". It would be interesting to know if such a thing exists!

Hey, being Shirley's No.1 fan, how can I not be counted in? In fact,
believe it or not, Shirley once wanted to set up an overseas branch of
her HK fan club, and asked me if I want to help (Did I ever mention that
I have 4 close encounters with her in Vancouver? Keith can prove it! I've
sent him a picture I took with Shirley). Unfortunately, that is the end
of the story. And her fan club in HK has stopped running several years ago.

Yeah, Fred. I thought you said you're putting up a web page with the photo

100% sure.

Also, there is VCD of her concert '95. It is published by Polygram
(China). So, we can foresee the release of VCD by PG (HK).

If you're talking about Out of the Blur (ie Nonsense Novel), then the answer is,
who knows. It's only a complimentary movie offered by CR and they invited
Jan Lamb to film the movie. It's free of charge to view, while I heard that
there'll be a VCD version out later this month. Hope it'll be real, since this
movie is my fav. However, the movie will be invited in the Japanese Film Festival,
last I heard.

I asked my favorite record store and they said there's NO words about Shirley's
new album. How do u guys know it's Oct 10? Pre-orders?

Thank you for your interest in the Big Porject. First of all, I really want
to get help from some pros to set up a research site for this project. To
start a internet fan club, we have to know how many people are interested in

know how many subscribers are there in the e' space or the E' Theatre. So
I've been e-mail to them to ask for the information. I'm still waiting for
reply. Is it hard to set up a research? It's a pitty that I'm rather new
to computers and the net. I really need some technical support. Is there
anyone willing to help me out? To make it simple, please let me know what
you can do for the project.

Hi all,

Since different people have different tastes, I believe all of you must
have a list of favorite songs by Shirley that are not plugged and are likely
overlooked (at least you think) by others.

Let me throw mine first.

A Sad Slave Girl (Track 5 of Making Dream album)

I like the music, arrangement and lyric. Although I don't understand what
exactly the lyric is about, I find the story behind is quite interesting.
Of course, I like Shirley's voice and her emotions.

Believe it or not, I started to like this song right after her concert
June '95. During which time, I hungered for listening to her songs. Too
bad that there are two news songs in the album On The Road Of Life. Then I
took her old albums and kept listening. Luckily I discovered this song. :-)

Hey, feel free to share your favorite.

Hi there, how are you guys doing?

Mmm, lost tracks? Ya bet! I have many many favorite songs (which i love
almost equally) and i don't know which of them have been plugged or not...
So i've made up the following little list, those songs that come to my mind
right now:

1. Willing to do everything
I believe this is from the album Golden Summer. I've noticed Shirley since
her debut but i thought it was just good, nothing really exciting. But
after hearing this song "willing to do everything"... wow...

2. The sound of Brahma
The style of this song is really special and it was my first time hearing a
HK singer sings it the way she did. It was really something. However, i
think she attended to do the same or something similar in the song "Mortal
Heart" (album "Making ecstatic dreams"); though the lyric is great, the
music doesn't seem to fit that well, well, the feeling of the music doesn't
go with the music (IMHO).

3. Li Hon Lan (Lee "fragrant orchid")
The first time i heard this song, it was sang by Jacky; now Shirley has
this female version and the story is changed completely. Personally, i
like the Shirley version of this song better. Hear it for yourself and
compare the two, see if you agree. Of course, "Forget Him" is just as
good, there, she sings the words straight from my heart...

4. The recent one in Tat's album "Binding in 28800" (or something like that)
This one is way cool and the first few seconds i heard it, i didn't
recognize it was really Shirley. New style as if she has this new voice.
I wonder what she has in stock for us next. Though i ain't sure what the
exact words of this song is (don't really have the time to concentrate in
the lyrics yet...) but the overall impression is cool.

Mmm, those are the special ones that i really enjoy no matter what mood i'm
in...

Oh, one more thing, i'm just wondering if Shirley has ever produce/written
any songs/lyrics? I guess i've asked this question in this list before,
but i don't remember it now. Anyone?

I thought track 9 of My Way was awesome (gum sai gum gok). it was a
little strange at first, but the mixed melody gives it cool spin... a
shirley-thing, i guess...

My favourite "un-plug" Shirley's songs including:

1/ Track 2 "The occassion which I have the deepest feeling" of Shirley's
second album "Happy are those in Love"

2/ Track 8 "I fall into love of U" in the third album of Shirley "True
Love"

3/ Track 10 "When there is no more rose in the world" in the third album
of Shirley: "True Love"

4/ Track 9 "The Striking Feeling" in Shirley's "My Way" album

5/ Track 7 "The Midnight Harbour" and Track 9 "Impression" in Shirley's
"EX: All time favourites" album.

Still waiting for Shirley's latest album eagerly!!! :))))

Sure.

However, I didn't consider this song to be a lost track. Many fans like
this song very much. Why do I say that? From her concert 95 and new year
concert this year, I observed this song is well accepted!

Apart from When There Are No Roses In The World, we can find True Love
Seen In Difficult Times in the same album. (track6) Indeed, True Love is
a very well-done album!

From my viewpoint, my most favourite song is The Wandering Kite,
the last track in "The Story of Shirley". This song is very sentimental
and touching, I think. I also notice that Shirley really did a great job
in presenting that song. The arrangement of that song also matches the
theme of the lyrics. Cool!

Hi Everyone,

I'm Bonnie. I just joined this "club" yesterday. I'm a junior Business
major at USC (University of Southern California).

I'm a huge fan of Shirley's. I think she is very cool and her voice is very
sexy. There are two songs I especially like: "I'm willing to do
everything" and "The broken-hearted musician" (hope you guys know which
songs I'm talking about).

That HKD$88 Compliation Album from Polygram (Shirley's) is really great.
It has the greatest songs of Shirley's and the quality is really good!

those
Ya-oh--ee-ehs....track 15 on the 88 Compliation..... YUCK! She sounds like
a man...hehe
Anyhow, I have bad news again....PolyGram Bastards are delaying the Shirley
CD yet again!
It won't make its deadline for Thursday October 10...the team at PolyGram
are sure that
Shirley is leaving and are going to delay the CD so that it collides with
her new CD
from her new company and try to kill off sales of records with her new
company....
BOOO!!!! PolyGram is sooo LOW!!!!!

I wish they put some key hits on the 88 CD like:
-Confused
-Passing Fantasy
-Dream Partner
-Real and Fake Words of Love
-Dream Theatre
-Farewell Love Song
-Dela

Those songs are amazing...how could they not put them on? Arghh....

Hello all Shirley fans!

About "Lost Tracks", as a great and long support fan of Shirley, I have
quite a number of "Lock Tracks" that recommend to others, anyway, I just
can't decide which I like most.

But I listen to these songs quite often:

Met again (SAб)
Sadness that without name (LWsT)
A Cool Winter in Mid-Summer (L]HV)
Depend on who at nights (]a)
Bay in Late Night (`]W)
Met again ({)

and lots more... ^_^

See? Most of them are track 4 on album, maybe 4 is a great track
number of "Lost Track"!!

Do you know which songs does Shirley like most? Shirley told us in an
interview:

Fake Love (ӻR)
Steal My Heart (ۧ)

Really? Then it was really a bad news to me. I always support Shirley to
stay with polygram.

Suppose she really leaves polygram, to which company should she go?
EMI is not a bad choice.

Yeap, nice pick. I love this song since the album Lost In The Night.

Don't you know this song was once plugged to the media? However, it was
not in the period of the release of Lost In The Night. Interestingly, it
was in the period of Montage 2. It was very exciting that a years-old song
being plugged. Yet important is this is a song that many people would
overlook it.

This song is not an "easy-listening" one. Indeed, I found it quite boring
at the first time I heard it. However, it is a kind of song to which the
more you listen, the more you like!

This may sound elementary, but I find the lyrics of "Fake Love" equally

Well, Keith, here's my understanding of the lyrics of "Fake Love"

It is basically an indirect complaint from Shirley to the media
for all the rumors she was having during that time. She was really
bothered by the media's coverage of her private love life. The lyrics
revealed how much she was hurt and how bad she wanted to escape from the
rumors. She believes that love is a natural thing that ordinary people
need, and she is just another ordinary individual. The most ironic
statement comes when she was singing "Maybe what you enjoy the most is
fake love". Obviously, many reporters enjoy making up fake stories about
Shirley and other celebrities' love lifes.
Also, there is a hidden sigh behind the lyrics, that it is very
hard for people to find true love nowadays, and especially harder for
famous ones.
It was reported that after Shirley had sung this song and
finished her vacation in the States, she felt much relieved. It appears
that everytime she is feeling stressed out she goes to the states,
probably because that's where she spent time studying for fashion design.
"Fake love" is one of my favorites. I also remember seeing a report
saying that Maggie Cheung was so touched by this song (when she just
broke up with her boyfriend) that she became a fan of Shirley.

Anyway, that's my opinion. I also have a question for you guys. I
just got someone from HK purchased me the VCD for Saviour of the Soul II.
However, I am having problem playing the movie with my ATI player. It is
an original version, and I can view other VCD's with no problem. Do any
of you guys have this VCD and encountered the same problem?

Thanks.

Frederick Koo.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if those who post/respond to messages in this list would
consider keeping the use of BIG-5 encoded characters to the minimum. I
believe there are many of us here who cannot read those messages
conveniently, whether it is caused by the lack of Chinese language
software, a mailserver which strips the 8th bit and turns them into
giberish, or inadequate mastery of the language. It would be great if you
can extend the courtesy and share the info with the rest of us.

Thank you.

Thanks. That's what I've heard. So I suppose the "you" in the lyrics is the
press, eh?

Sorry, no help from me. I've no experience with ATI cards.

Hi,

Forgive me if this has been talked to death already, but
I just joined this mailing list last week...

What are your opinions on the latest Shirley "88" Collection
that has been out a few weeks now. Do you think Polygram did
a good job finding the right blend of songs to put on it?

I have been listening to it a lot lately and I just wanted
to say that I totally love the first two tracks on the "88"
collection, and I am very pleased with the choice of songs.

Has anyone else been picking up any of the other "88" CDs
that have been coming out?

I have (so far):

Shirley Kwan "88"
Priscilla Chan "88"
Jacky Cheung "88"
Teresa Tang "88"

I'm hoping Polygram releases ones for Leon Lai, Vivian Lai,
Linda Wong and Karen Tong.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys...

----- Brent

IMHO, yes. The selection is good, and the acoustic quality is superb.

Yeah, I've been waiting for Shirley's new release for a looooong time,
when's that coming out?

Also, is that Mandarin album of Shirley's good? Is there a lot of old
songs and just a few new ones?

Hi Bonnie,

The Mandarin Album 'Confused' is great, except for a couple
of average tracks. There are both re-dos from Cantonese songs
and original songs. The originals sounds better, probably
because am get used to the Cantonese versions of the redos.

Visit the e'space and look at the reviews, people pretty
much said it all.

The first Mandarin Album (forgot the title) was less attractive,
not because the tracks are bad, but this CD just does not sound right.
I've tried it in my car, on discman, on hi-fis, and the high pitches
seem lost. I'm no expert but maybe this has to do with recording/
production quality.

Either of these two albums let you appreciate Shirley's talents
in languages.

hi,

What are your guys comments on this album, the one after Shirley having her
haircut?

IMHO, it may be the best all-new-songs album of Shirley. It is full of
her style.

P.S.Please exclude "EX" ALL TIME FAVORITE. It is really hard to judge the
"EX" album since all the songs are (excellent) remakes.

i'm hoping her new album is just as original and good as "my way". the
album has a number of excellent songs, both slow and rock. she always
manages to carry through on both levels of artistry. i like tracks
"cuddling under the stars","goodbye love song" "inside and outside the
window", "--- feeling", "rumour", and "lost legend".
though i love her "ex" album a whole lot, i don't consider it truly her
own because the songs were not original sung by her. however she does
derserve immense credit for making the songs live again.she does make it
her own.
